Municipal councils in Amersfoort (NL) and Zemst (BE approve local budget, parking and housing measures

The Amersfoort municipal executive adopted several local measures for 2026. Starting 1 October, paid parking and permit zones will be introduced in the Jericho and Jeruzalem neighbourhoods, and the boundaries of several retail areas were adjusted. A budget amendment raises the subsidy ceiling for volunteer‑run neighbourhood activities to €2,500 from 2027.

In Zemst, the council approved a range of initiatives, including a financing agreement for Van Praet NV’s new industrial building, a 30 % discount on municipal building plots to foster affordable housing, and a partnership to create starter homes in a historic villa. The council also extended a 20‑year concession for a local football club, approved a new artificial‑grass field project, and introduced subsidies for cultural and sports organisations.

Both municipalities are updating local policies to improve traffic management, support community projects and increase housing affordability.
