Municipal councils in Rossland and Courtenay address zoning changes

The Rossland City Council has approved a zoning amendment to allow indoor self-storage units within the Downtown Commercial Zone, provided they are not located on the street level of a building. Additionally, the council discussed the continuation of a communal bear-proof dumpster service following input from the Bear Smart task force and the Natural Control Alternatives Society regarding long-term management and succession planning.

In Courtenay, a proposed zoning amendment for 1201 and 1251 Braidwood Road is under consideration. The bylaw seeks to rezone the properties from Commercial Two A to Multiple Use Six to facilitate the construction of a four-storey apartment building containing 34 residential units. The change would increase the maximum building height from 9.14 metres to 15.0 metres and adjust floor area ratios to accommodate mixed-use development.
