Municipal councils report on infrastructure and regional planning
Municipal councils in Ontario and Alberta have provided updates on regional infrastructure and governance. In Elgin County, Ontario, the Ministry of Transportation and Stantec Consulting are conducting a Highway 3 Planning Study between St. Thomas and Aylmer. Modeling suggests that population and employment growth could cause Highway 3 to exceed capacity by 2051. The study is evaluating potential road network improvements and alternative corridors to connect with the St. Thomas Expressway extension. A public information session is scheduled for August 26, 2026, with environmental clearance expected by spring 2028.
In Camrose County, Alberta, administration reported progress on intermunicipal collaboration frameworks and the extension of assessment services through 2029. Public works activities included utility upgrades in New Norway, lagoon rehabilitation in Round Hill and Ferintosh, and the development of a Water Master Plan. Additionally, planning staff are continuing work on the Buffalo Lake Intermunicipal Development Plan.
