Municipal Education Initiatives Boost Services in Ecuador and Colombia

In Guayaquil, Ecuador, the municipal public company DASE EP has expanded education, health and welfare services on Isla Puná. About 90 students aged 7 to 14 receive academic reinforcement in subjects such as language, mathematics, computing and socio‑emotional education, supported by computers and two permanent facilitators. The centre also provides veterinary care, including sterilisation, deworming, vaccination and ultrasounds for dogs and cats, improving public health on the island.

In Colombia’s capital, the Municipal Education Secretariat, together with the National Ministry of Education, conducted the second phase of teacher training under the Programme of Tutoring for Learning. The workshops focused on integral formation, aligning curricular interests with institutional educational projects and strengthening pedagogical tools. Teacher tutor Lucía Jiménez Belalcázar highlighted the importance of the training for coordinated work between teachers and students.
