Municipal Education Secretariat uses writing assessments to guide teaching
The Municipal Education Secretariat (Semed) held meetings with directors and coordinators of the Municipal Education Network (Reme) to analyze diagnostic writing assessment results for students in the early years of elementary school.
For students in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades, the data is being used to transform school statistics into daily pedagogical planning. Each school received specific reports to identify unmastered skills and create targeted interventions. Education Secretary Lucas Henrique Bitencourt emphasized that these diagnostics allow for intelligent pedagogical efforts by identifying vulnerable groups that require specific attention rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Regarding the 1st and 2nd grades, assessments focused on literacy levels and narrative production. Data indicated progress in the 1st grade, where the percentage of students at the pre-syllabic level dropped from 40% to 26%, while those at the alphabetic level rose from 8% to 30%. Technical staff noted that these results serve as a starting point for teachers to design strategies to improve reading fluency and text production through the end of the school year.
