Municipal elections and civic engagement initiatives in Ontario

In Chatham-Kent, internet voting for the 2026 municipal and school board elections has commenced. The voting period opened on Thursday, October 8, and is scheduled to close on Friday, October 16. Voters are required to use an elector ID found on their voter card along with an email address to cast electronic ballots.

In Kitchener, a coalition of community organizations is hosting a theatrical event titled ‘The Canadian Dream’ to encourage democratic participation ahead of the October 26 municipal election. The interactive performance, developed by the Outta Work Actors, addresses lived experiences of homelessness and civic engagement. The event will be followed by a non-partisan meet and greet with candidates from the mayoral, regional council, and Ward 9 races.
