Municipal guards in Brazil implement school safety and traffic education programs

Municipal civil guards in the Brazilian cities of Apucarana and Maringá are conducting various educational and preventive safety initiatives within school environments.

In Apucarana, the Patrulha Escolar of the Guarda Civil Municipal is implementing the ‘Trânsito Seguro’ (Safe Traffic) project. Through the PROGEM initiative, teams have delivered 17 lectures to fifth-grade students to promote responsible traffic behavior and safety awareness. The program includes upcoming educational blitzes where students will participate in practical activities to engage drivers and pedestrians regarding traffic signals, seatbelt use, and safe crossings.

In Maringá, the Patrulha Escolar was honored by the City Council with the Municipal Coat of Arms in recognition of its preventive patrolling and educational guidance in municipal schools and early childhood education centers. During the ceremony, 11 civil guards received community merit titles. Additionally, the ‘Escola em Paz’ (School in Peace) project was presented, which aims to combat hostility in school environments through playful interventions in partnership with the Secretariat of Education.
