Municipal Health Department provides Pneumo 20 vaccine to elderly residents

The Municipal Health Secretariat has administered the Pneumo 20 vaccine to elderly residents at the Casa do Idoso Sagrado Coração de Jesus. The vaccination campaign specifically targeted individuals aged 85 and older, a demographic considered highly vulnerable to severe infections due to age-related immune system decline and chronic health conditions.

The Pneumo 20 vaccine protects against 20 serotypes of the Streptococcus pneumoniae bacterium, which can cause pneumonia, meningitis, and bloodstream infections. By bringing the immunization directly to the care facility, health officials aim to facilitate access for residents who face mobility challenges and to reduce the risk of hospitalization and mortality among the elderly.
