Municipal Hospital fentanyl theft investigation targets three technicians
Authorities in Bahía Blanca are investigating the disappearance of 25 fentanyl ampoules from the Municipal Hospital. The incident began on March 30 when the medication was reported missing from the central operating room. Six days later, on April 6, the ampoules reappeared in a basket beneath a storage cupboard, but they were empty.
Prosecutor Mauricio Del Cero stated that three anesthesia technicians are currently charged in the case. These individuals were on duty both when the drugs first vanished and when the empty containers were returned. On August 27, the Argentine Federal Police conducted raids at three residences and searched the hospital, seizing 11 cell phones and a notebook.
The prosecution is exploring the hypothesis that the theft was an internal maneuver intended to cause a scandal or disrupt hospital management. Investigators noted that the return of the empty bottles suggests the motive may not have been commercial sale or personal consumption, but rather an attempt to create institutional conflict, possibly related to disputes over overtime distribution under the current head of anesthesiology, Pablo Espuro.
