Municipal leaders resign in Puerto Yeruá and Castro
In Puerto Yeruá, Argentina, Mayor Daniel Benítez has announced his voluntary resignation from his second term, effective October 31. Benítez cited personal, family, and health reasons for his decision to step down. Following the municipal organic law of Entre Ríos, Vice-Mayor Liliana Sgüerzo is expected to assume leadership of the municipality and will simultaneously vacate her position as president of the Deliberative Council.
In Castro, Chile, Alejandro Pino has resigned from his position as Director of Citizen Security. His resignation follows an allegation by a resident of the Rilán peninsula, who accused Pino of the unauthorized use of electrical energy from his private residence. Mayor Baltazar Elgueta accepted the resignation, noting that Pino had held the role since January 2026 and expressing respect for his decision to address personal matters.
