Municipal libraries report increased usage following renovations
Municipal libraries in Sassuolo, Italy, and Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Italy, are reporting significant developments following recent renovations.
In Sassuolo, the Biblioteca Cionini has seen a substantial increase in engagement during the first six months of its reopening following 2025 renovations. Data indicates that book loans rose to 28,257 and attendance reached 17,392, compared to lower figures in 2023 and 2024. Cultural event attendance also grew to 1,188 participants. The library has scheduled upcoming events featuring authors such as Paolo Di Paolo and Veronica Raimo.
In Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, the Nannino di Giovanni municipal library is scheduled to reopen on August 11, 2026, after completing roof renovation works. The project was funded through a budget variation approved by the previous city council and was prioritized by the current administration. The facility will resume providing services for students, researchers, and readers with standard weekday morning and afternoon hours.
