Municipal management and funding reforms face criticism in Salto and Punta Arenas

In Salto, Uruguay, political discussions have centered on the efficiency of municipal management. Pablo Williams, coordinator of the CORE caucus, criticized previous administrative models for increasing the number of municipal employees without delivering improved essential services such as cleaning or infrastructure maintenance. He argued that the expansion of the workforce increased operational costs without enhancing the administration's ability to respond to community needs.

In Punta Arenas, Chile, Councilman Jonathan Cárcamo Gómez has raised concerns regarding proposed reforms to the Municipal Common Fund. Cárcamo estimates that Punta Arenas could face a reduction of approximately 315 million pesos due to these changes. He warned that the reform might deepen inequalities between municipalities by concentrating resources in certain areas while disadvantaging those with greater territorial dispersion and lower incomes.

Additionally, local issues in Punta Arenas include conflicts regarding the use of provisional health center facilities at the María Behety High School and a shift in the municipal agenda toward security.
