Municipal Participation Fund releases first August installment in Brazil

The first installment of the Municipal Participation Fund (FPM) for August was released on Monday, August 10. After deductions for the Fund for the Maintenance and Development of Basic Education (Fundeb), the net amount transferred is approximately R$ 8.95 billion, while the gross amount stands at R$ 11.19 billion.

The calculation base for this transfer increased to R$ 49.72 billion, up from R$ 41.07 billion in the previous year. The National Confederation of Municipalities (CNM) advised local managers to prioritize financial planning for the second half of the year, noting that tax revenue typically declines during this period.

However, 15 Brazilian municipalities were blocked from receiving these federal resources due to debts with the Union or failures in mandatory reporting, such as minimum spending requirements for health and education. Most affected cities are located in Minas Gerais and Goiás. These funds are frozen rather than lost, and municipalities can restore access by regularizing their fiscal status through the Siafi system.
