Municipal police in Turkey face calls for legal status recognition

The Tüm Yerel-Sen Muğla Branch has issued a call for municipal police (zabıta) to be officially recognized as a legal profession. During Zabıta Week, Branch President Ufuk Şimşek emphasized that while the responsibilities of municipal police regarding public health, environmental inspection, and consumer rights are increasing, their legal status and personal rights have not kept pace.

In a separate development regarding municipal staffing, Karaburun Municipality in İzmir has announced the recruitment of four municipal police officers. The positions require candidates to have a minimum KPSS score of 60 and meet specific physical requirements, including height and weight standards. Applications for these roles are scheduled to take place in early October 2026.
