Municipal pools in Tabira and Ermua report increased summer usage
Municipal swimming pools in the Basque region of Spain have reported significant increases in usage as the summer season concludes.
In Tabira, the municipal pools recorded 57,143 uses, an increase of 8,000 compared to the previous year. Local authorities noted that despite the higher attendance, the maximum capacity of 1,900 simultaneous users was never exceeded. Following the summer period, work will begin on new changing rooms and a cafeteria, part of a phased renovation project for the Tabira Kirolgunea complex scheduled between 2026 and 2028. The municipality also increased night security during the season to address episodes of vandalism.
Similarly, the Betiondo outdoor pools in Ermua saw a rise in attendance, recording 53,506 entries. This represents an increase of over 7,200 compared to the previous summer. The facility saw its highest activity in June and a notable surge in September, with over 8,500 entries recorded on the final day of the season. Local officials highlighted the importance of providing accessible leisure options within the municipality.
