Latin American Cities Offer Property Tax Discounts and Waived Penalties

Municipal governments across Latin America are promoting temporary discounts and fee waivers to encourage timely payment of property taxes and other local charges. The Chihuahua municipal treasury in Mexico offers an 80 % reduction on property‑tax surcharges and a credit‑card payment plan. In the same state, the "Juntas Podemos Ahorrar" card provides up to 15 % discounts at participating retailers for women during the back‑to‑school season. Ciudad Juárez allows drivers to replace up to 75 % of a traffic fine by performing community service.

In Colombia, the mayoralties of Montería and Neiva each grant a 5 % early‑payment discount on the 2026 property tax, warning that interest will accrue after 1 August. Manizales’ finance office urges delinquent taxpayers to regularize debts before coercive collection measures begin. Honduras’ Central District municipality (Tegucigalpa) set a 31 August deadline for the 2026 property‑tax filing, reminding owners that a 2 % annual surcharge applies after that date, while a tax amnesty remains in force.

Argentina’s Neuquén municipality extended its July tax deadline to 5 August and the semester‑ahead payment deadline to 14 August, offering discounts of up to 25 % for early or regular contributors. Hermosillo, Mexico, announced a three‑day window (30 July‑1 August) with zero recargos for payments of property tax, traffic and administrative fines. These coordinated incentives aim to boost municipal revenues and ease household financial burdens.
