Municipal reforms approved in Santiago del Estero and San Miguel de Tucumán
In Santiago del Estero, the City Council unanimously approved a modification to the regulations governing taxi and radiotaxi services. The new ordinance increases the maximum number of vehicles allowed per provider license from three to ten, while maintaining a total system cap of 2,750 units. During the debate, Councilwoman Cecilia Neme of the UCR supported the measure but expressed concerns regarding the scale of the increase, suggesting that the jump to ten vehicles might primarily benefit those with significant economic resources. She also called for increased municipal oversight and noted that the change could create employment opportunities for drivers who do not own vehicles but can rent them.
In San Miguel de Tucumán, the City Council approved the elimination of 59 municipal fees, rights, and contributions. Driven by Mayor Rossana Chahla, the reform aims to simplify administrative procedures and reduce costs for residents and businesses. Eliminated charges include fees for Debt-Free and Tax Compliance certificates, as well as certain administrative document costs. While the Executive branch estimates potential savings of up to $11,500 for some users, opposition members have questioned the lack of precise data regarding the total number of beneficiaries and the resulting impact on municipal revenue.
