Municipal Risk Director Jeffry Saúl Figueroa Assassinated in Manta, Ecuador

Jeffry Saúl Figueroa Intriago, the director of the Directorate of Risks for the Municipality of Manta, was shot to death on August 6, 2026. Security‑camera footage captured the attack: two gunmen opened fire from the rear of his gray vehicle parked on Medardo Mora street, forcing him to flee on foot. After running about ten metres, he fell at the intersection of U7 and U2, where the assailants approached and delivered a final burst of gunfire, including shots to the head. The shooter wore a red T‑shirt, black pants and a white cap; a second gunman in a black coat also participated.

Police investigators are examining possible links to a previous killing of a municipal official five weeks earlier; both victims were cousins and held municipal positions. Authorities suspect a coordinated motive and are reviewing the modus operandi for connections between the two homicides.
