Municipal School Antonio José Paniago Wins National Environmental Education Prize in Brazil

The Escola Municipal Antonio José Paniago, a school in the Rede Municipal de Ensino (Reme) network, was selected as one of the five winners of the 2026 Prêmio Escolas Baseadas na Natureza (Schools Based on Nature). The award provides a R$ 100,000 grant to develop projects that naturalize school spaces, specifically maintaining cisterns and implementing bee‑management activities. The prize, promoted by Motiva with technical support from Crescer and Instituto Alana, also includes ongoing pedagogical and technical assistance.

Municipal education secretary Lucas Henrique Bitencourt de Souza said the achievement showcases the quality and innovative teaching of the municipal network. Science lab teacher Camila Cristina Czernisz Barbosa noted the recognition strengthens their work on pollinator education and encourages continued environmental initiatives. The prize aims to foster projects such as school gardens, rainwater harvesting, and outdoor learning areas across municipalities where the sponsoring company operates.
