Municipal security drives in Mexico and Colombia target student safety

In Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexican authorities carried out the Operativo Borrador at the Vicente Guerrero Technical Secondary School. Police, the municipal DIF, and the State Attorney's Office provided orientation, K9 units, and traffic officers to reduce risk factors and promote a culture of crime prevention among students, teachers and parents.

A separate municipal security operation took place in the Leona Vicario delegation of Puerto Morelos, where officials held a proximity‑social day. The event offered traffic‑safety information, a citizen‑complaint module, and guidance from the specialized gender‑based violence team on the “Estrategia Violeta” to strengthen community trust and protect women and children.

In Tumaco, Colombia, the Pacific Management agency launched an Integrated Strategy for the Prevention of Crimes against Children and Adolescents in public and private schools. Workshops taught risk identification, self‑care, reporting channels and protective environments to combat trafficking, forced recruitment and other abuses. The pilot, begun in 2025 with about 1,100 students, is set to expand in 2026 to more urban and rural institutions.
