Municipal swimming pools open in San Martín del Tesorillo and Higuera de la Sierra, Spain
The new municipal swimming pools in San Martín del Tesorillo and Higuera de la Sierra officially opened on Monday, 15 June, marking the start of the summer leisure season in the Andalusian Sierra de Huelva. Both facilities began operation at 15:00, offering extended hours—weekday afternoons until 20:00 and weekends from 12:00 to 20:00—to accommodate families, youth and seniors.
In San Martín del Tesorillo, local works teams prepared the pool for public use, while Higuera de la Sierra’s mayor Mario Domínguez highlighted the town’s distinction as the first in the comarca to launch its municipal pool. Both towns announced free entry during the opening day until capacity is reached and introduced affordable pricing, with discounts for children, pensioners, large families and people with disabilities. Higuera de la Sierra also launched the 2026 Municipal Swimming Campaign, aimed at promoting safe, supervised swimming for all ages.
The openings are intended to provide a safe, community‑focused venue for sport and recreation throughout the hot summer months.
