Municipal theatres in Spain and Mexico undergo major modernisation upgrades

The town council of Cazorla, Spain, will modernise the Teatro de la Merced with new sound and lighting systems funded by European Union Next Generation EU resources. The upgrade aims to improve performance quality, attract higher‑profile events and boost cultural tourism in the province.

In La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, municipal authorities have begun a rehabilitation of the historic Teatro Juárez. Using funds from the federal FORTAMUN programme, the project will replace the worn stage floor and install modern audio‑visual equipment, with work slated to finish by August and the theatre expected to reopen in September.

Both initiatives reflect local governments’ efforts to refresh key cultural venues, enhance technical capabilities for performances and strengthen their roles as community and tourism hubs.
