Municipal Tourism Councils in Brazil launch new development cycles

Municipal Tourism Councils (COMTUR) in Brazil have initiated new working cycles to promote local economic development through tourism.

In Várzea Grande, the new members of COMTUR-VG were inaugurated, with Fabyane Akemi Nagazawa continuing as president and Selço Medeiros as vice-president. The council, which includes representatives from public sectors and private entities such as hospitality, gastronomy, and culture, is focusing on structuring the city as a hub for business travelers and those visiting the Mato Grosso biomes. Key priorities include tourism signage, cultural valorization, and monitoring via the National Tourism Policy's mapping system.

In another regional meeting, the council held its first session for the 2026-2028 biennium. During this meeting, Janderson Azevedo Furtado was elected president and Fabiana Baroca Almeida was elected secretary. The session emphasized the role of tourism in fostering the local economy and strengthening dialogue between the public sector and private businesses, including local historians and entrepreneurs.
