Municipal waste services in Argentina and Spain face cost hikes and overload issues

The council of Villa Carlos Paz in Argentina approved a new price adjustment for the municipal waste‑collection contract with CO. TR. ECO. S.A. The monthly payment was raised to more than 612 million pesos, and a retroactive charge of about 87.7 million pesos was recognized for the months of April, May and June 2026. The ruling party voted unanimously; the opposition did not intervene.

In Ontinyent, Spain, the municipality reports that open‑air container areas are still handling a volume of waste far above expectations despite a door‑to‑door collection system that has been in place for almost a month. Officials say the overload is temporary, that the sites are emptied twice daily and cleaned every day, and that the newly built closed‑container zones are performing satisfactorily.
