Municipal Wastewater Treatment Upgrades Announced in Antigonish, Canada and Canandaigua, USA

The Town of Antigonish in Nova Scotia awarded a $6.28 million contract to Avondale Construction to upgrade the front end of its sewage treatment plant. The project will replace aging primary clarifier equipment and add biological treatment upgrades needed to meet state discharge standards. The city will also pursue state grant programs that could cover 40‑60% of the costs, reducing the borrowing requirement to roughly $10 million. Council members debated debt implications before unanimously approving the resolutions.
