Municipal worker arrested for fatal assault in Gran Canaria

A 64-year-old municipal worker from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria has been detained following the death of a 73-year-old man at El Burrero beach in Ingenio.

The incident occurred on October 20 near the southern dike of the beach. According to reports, the worker was performing duties in the area and instructed the victim, a fisherman known as Nino, to change his location. A dispute ensued after the victim refused to move, leading to a physical confrontation.

Witnesses stated that the worker struck the man with several punches. The victim lost his balance and fell, but the assault continued until other municipal employees intervened. The victim was transported to a hospital, where he died two days later from his injuries. While the investigation was initially classified as a case of serious injury, the Guardia Civil has upgraded the charge to suspected homicide following the death.
