Municipalities address hazardous urban infrastructure in Mexico and Argentina

Municipal authorities in Mexico and Argentina have taken action to address public safety concerns regarding deteriorating urban infrastructure.

In Mexico, municipal personnel removed a dangerous structure located at the intersection of Costa Rica and Tlaxcala streets. The structure, a facade with arches built over the sidewalk, was identified as a risk to pedestrians and motorists due to its instability during high winds. Gibran Solís, director of Limpia, stated that expedited procedures were used because the construction constituted a flagrant invasion of public space. The city plans to continue inspections through its Permanent Urban Reordering Program.

In Villa Elisa, Argentina, the Municipality of La Plata has begun restoration work on a pedestrian bridge at Camino Belgrano and 424. The bridge had fallen into significant disrepair following heavy storms, forcing pedestrians and cyclists to cross busy roads. Additionally, water utility repairs have commenced in the area of 2 and 55 to address basement flooding caused by a broken pipe.
