Municipalities approve fire department mergers in Germany and France
Local municipal councils in Germany and France have approved the merger of multiple fire department units to improve emergency service efficiency and infrastructure.
In Germany, the municipal council unanimously decided to merge the Freckenfeld and Minfeld fire units. This decision follows a feasibility study suggesting the construction of a new, shared fire station on a commercial area east of the Memmer car dealership in Freckenfeld. The move addresses the need for facility renovations in Freckenfeld and a new building in Minfeld, alongside the procurement of new emergency vehicles.
In Schenklengsfeld, France, the municipal representative body unanimously voted to consolidate five local fire departments into a single operational unit, effective January 1, 2027. The merger, which includes units from Schenklengsfeld, Landeck, Wehrshausen, Konrode, and Unterweisenborn, is expected to receive a state subsidy of 740,000 euros. A new modern fire station is planned for the entrance of Schenklengsfeld near the L 3171.
