Municipalities expand district heating networks in Austria and Germany

Municipalities in Austria and Germany are advancing local heating infrastructure projects to increase renewable energy usage.

In Bludenz, Austria, construction of the Bludenz-Bürs local heating network is progressing. Work on St. Peterstraße involves filling pipeline trenches, necessitating night closures between September 24 and October 2. The project, which includes a new biomass heating plant in Stallehr, involves a 22 million euro investment. The first stage aims to supply approximately 50 buildings with renewable heat by autumn 2027 through a seven-kilometer network.

In Rottweil, Germany, the energy provider ENRW has begun expanding the district heating network near Brugger Straße. Construction is expected to continue until December, with traffic diversions in place near the Stadthalle and aquasol. This expansion is part of broader municipal heat planning aimed at reducing reliance on natural gas and heating oil, which currently account for a significant portion of the city's energy consumption.
