Municipalities implement advanced surveillance and license plate recognition technology

Various municipalities are upgrading urban security through the implementation of intelligent surveillance systems and automatic license plate recognition (LPR) technology.

In Campana, Argentina, the municipal monitoring center (CIMoPU) successfully used LPR technology to track and intercept a vehicle after a passenger reported leaving belongings in a DiDi ride-share car. The vehicle was detected and intercepted by police within 30 minutes of the alert.

Tafí Viejo, Argentina, is modernizing its monitoring center by incorporating 140 intelligent cameras equipped with artificial intelligence. The project includes the creation of a digital security ring at city entrances to facilitate automatic license plate reading and uses AI to detect unusual movements or environmental hazards like smoke.

In Sinaloa, Mexico, an investment of approximately 15 million pesos is being used to install 13 technological arches equipped with plate readers. These devices will connect to the Public Vehicle Registry (Repuve) and the C4 system to detect stolen vehicles. The project is approximately 60 percent complete, with installation expected to finish by late October.
