Municipalities implement flood prevention measures amid weather threats

Municipalities in Argentina and Mexico are implementing emergency measures to prepare for heavy rainfall and weather phenomena.

In Santa Rosa, Argentina, authorities have executed an action plan in response to the El Niño phenomenon. The municipality has cleaned over 9,300 meters of storm drains, representing more than 60% of the city's total drainage network. Work includes removing sediment, branches, and weeds from the Canal Sur and various street channels. Additionally, maintenance has been performed on drainage basins in several neighborhoods to increase water capacity and reduce flooding risks.

In Mérida, Mexico, Mayor Cecilia Patrón Laviada has activated the Municipal Civil Protection Council following forecasts of moderate to heavy rains associated with tropical storm Isaías. The city has prepared 68 temporary shelters capable of housing over 4,000 people in vulnerable areas. Preventive measures include the desilting of 240 drainage systems, maintenance of deep wells, and the pruning of trees to prevent hazards during the storm.
