Municipalities implement stricter pet ownership regulations and fines

Municipalities in Torredembarra and General Madariaga are implementing stricter regulations and increased enforcement regarding responsible pet ownership to improve public safety and animal welfare.

In Torredembarra, a revised ordinance will prohibit owners from leaving dogs tied up in front of businesses while they attend to errands. This measure aims to prevent accidents, conflicts, and animal stress caused by factors such as high temperatures. Violators may face fines ranging from 60 to 300 euros. Additionally, dogs must remain on leashes in all areas not specifically designated as off-leash zones, such as socialization parks or dog beaches.

In General Madariaga, authorities are intensifying controls to address the rise of unsupervised dogs on public streets. The municipality reported incidents of animals breaking waste bags, chasing motorcycles and bicycles, and attacking people or other pets. Under Ordinance 3020/24, owners will face increased fines for non-compliance. Local officials are calling on residents to assist by reporting infractions to help identify responsible owners.
