Municipalities in Argentina launch local markets to offer affordable food

Municipal governments in different regions of Argentina are implementing itinerant market programs to provide residents with access to affordable food and household goods.

In Florencio Varela, the ‘Mercado Activo’ initiative operates weekly, offering meat, fish, vegetables, fruits, and dairy products. Mayor Andrés Watson noted that the strategy aims to benefit local families by providing high-quality goods at accessible prices, supplemented by promotions through ‘Cuenta DNI’.

Similarly, in San Miguel de Tucumán, the ‘Mercado en tu Barrio’ program, organized by the Municipal Directorate of Institutional Relations, continues to tour public spaces. The program features various promotions on staples such as potatoes, onions, apples, bananas, milk, and eggs, as well as specialized options like gluten-free and vegan products.
