Municipalities in Brazil launch Zero Waste Week initiatives

Local governments in Brazil are implementing programs to promote waste management and environmental sustainability through Zero Waste Week campaigns.

In Curitiba, the Municipal Chamber has joined the 'Semana Paraná Lixo Zero 2026' campaign. The initiative, running from October 23 to 31, focuses on solid waste management. Flávia Sotto Maior, coordinator of the Paraná Lixo Zero Movement, highlighted the urgency of the issue, noting that the Fazenda Rio Grande landfill may reach capacity by next year. The movement advocates for composting organic waste and maximizing the use of recyclables to reduce landfill reliance.

In Três Lagoas, the Municipal Secretariat of Environment and Agribusiness (SEMEA) is conducting its own Zero Waste Week starting October 27. The program includes educational activities for students, such as visits to the Municipal Nursery and participation in vocational fairs to teach selective waste collection and proper disposal methods.
