Argentina government confidence index rises in August

The Government Confidence Index (ICG), produced by the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella, showed a 6.4% monthly increase in August, reaching 2.06 points. This recovery follows a period of decline, including a 16.5% drop since December. While the monthly trend is positive, the index remains 2.8% lower than in August of the previous year.

Key components of the index saw improvements, most notably in “Preocupación por el interés general” (+12.8%) and “Eficiencia” (+12.6%). The increase was particularly pronounced among voters aged 18 to 29, though researchers noted this segment has lower statistical precision. In a historical comparison at the 32-month mark of their respective terms, Javier Milei’s confidence level is higher than those of Mauricio Macri and Alberto Fernández, but lower than that of Néstor Kirchner.

Separately, a report by the Asociación Argentina de Presupuesto y Administración Financiera (ASAP) regarding fiscal transparency in Buenos Aires province revealed significant disparities. While 64 municipalities, including La Plata and Tandil, achieved perfect scores of 100 points for their accessibility and publication of budgetary information, nine districts, such as Cañuelas and Lomas de Zamora, scored zero points.
