South American authorities probe public works and environmental projects

Various regional authorities and judicial bodies are addressing issues related to public works, environmental compliance, and infrastructure management across South America.

In Chile, the Dominga mining-port project has been effectively rejected after Andes Iron withdrew its legal appeals from the Supreme Court. Additionally, the Environmental Evaluation Service (SEA) has resumed the invalidation process for a 19-tower residential project in the Paicaví Wetland following a suspension lift.

In Peru, several infrastructure projects face scrutiny. The Comptroller General reported significant delays and structural defects in a thermal water access project in Yura, Arequipa, noting only 14.59% progress. In Castilla, the municipality is awaiting funds from the Ministry of Economy and Finance to maintain emergency water collection systems before the rainy season. Meanwhile, an anti-corruption investigation has been launched in Miraflores against Mayor Carlos Canales regarding alleged obstacles placed on social housing projects.

In Chile, the Regional Comptroller of Valparaíso has ordered investigations into contract deficiencies in San Felipe, citing unpaid states of payment and inconsistencies in municipal valuations for public works projects.
