Municipalities in Colombia and Uruguay implement new transport regulations

The La Ceja Council in Colombia has unanimously approved Agreement 018 of 2026, establishing free rural school transportation as a permanent public policy. The measure aims to reduce educational barriers and prevent dropout rates among rural students. Currently, the program serves 220 students across six routes, covering 100% of the fare for students living more than 400 meters from their schools.

Funding for the service is a collaborative effort involving the General Participation System, the Antioquia Government, and the local administration. Additionally, a partnership with the company Transportes Guamito covers 30% of the costs, while the municipality provides the remaining 70%.

In Uruguay, the Municipal Council of Young has introduced new regulations for the use of the municipal minibus. The rules govern the loan of the vehicle to educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and cultural, sporting, or religious delegations. The Council will evaluate requests based on equality and shared use, requiring formal written applications at least 15 days in advance.
