Municipalities in Île-de-France face financial distress

Audits conducted by the independent organization Bilan de Mandat have revealed significant financial deterioration and management issues in the French municipalities of Saint-Germain-en-Laye and Villejuif.

In Saint-Germain-en-Laye, an investigation into the 2020-2026 mandate suggests that political decisions made by the municipality led by Arnaud Péricard account for two-thirds of the current financial distress. The report warns that inappropriate financial management could lead to budget cuts for public services by 2026-2027, potentially resulting in reduced staff for security, cleanliness, and education, as well as decreased service frequency.

Similarly, Villejuif is facing a severe financial crisis following a period of deterioration between 2020 and 2025. Under the leadership of Pierre Garzon, the municipality has seen its debt levels become unmanageable. This rising debt has increased interest costs and restricted the city's capacity for future investments, impacting the overall quality of public management.
