Municipalities in Lima and Lechería implement stricter public conduct ordinances

Municipalities in Peru and Venezuela are implementing new ordinances to regulate public behavior and sanitation.

In Lima, Peru, the Municipalidad de Lima is working to increase fines for urinating in public spaces. The current fine of S/250 could rise to approximately S/750, representing 15% of a UIT. This initiative, part of the ‘Todo tiene su lugar’ campaign, aims to prevent the misuse of streets and plazas, particularly in the Cercado de Lima. Officials noted that the city currently uses approximately 8,000 liters of water daily to clean over 120 critical points.

In Lechería, Venezuela, Mayor Manuel Ferreira has promulgated a reformed Citizen Coexistence Ordinance. The updated regulations include measures against noise pollution, public space deterioration, street alcohol consumption, and improper waste disposal. The new system indexes fines to the highest-valued currency exchange rate published by the Central Bank of Venezuela and offers community service as an optional social responsibility measure.
