Municipalities in Medellín and Torrevieja confirm holiday lighting plans
In Medellín, Colombia, the local administration and Empresas Públicas de Medellín (EPM) have confirmed that the city's traditional Christmas lighting displays will proceed as planned despite national concerns regarding low reservoir levels and the El Niño phenomenon. Officials clarified that the energy consumption of the holiday lights, which utilize LED technology, represents only a marginal fraction—between 11 minutes and one hour—of the city's total energy expenditure during the 46-day period.
Meanwhile, in Torrevieja, Spain, the City Council has awarded a contract for new ornamental public lighting to Iluminaciones Granja S.L. The contract, valued at approximately 758,510 euros, was awarded after the company was the sole bidder. The agreement includes a commitment to reduce response times for urgent repairs, though the final plan excludes certain previously considered enhancements such as video mapping and additional ornamental arches.
