Municipalities in Mexico face legal challenges and audits
In Coatepec, Veracruz, Mayor Jorge Ignacio Luna Hernández announced that the City Council has challenged a ruling by the Electoral Tribunal before the Superior Chamber. The dispute involves a request for information made by a councilwoman regarding municipal contracts and the Public Works Directorate. While the Municipal Treasury has been ordered to respond to the information request within 10 business days, the administration is contesting the portion of the ruling involving the Director of Public Works.
Additionally, the Mayor noted that while the municipality has requested assistance from the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Public Works (SIOP) to address road damage, the end of the fiscal year makes initiating new infrastructure projects difficult.
In Ocuituco, Morelos, Mayor René Jacobo and municipal treasury staff signed the commencement act for an ordinary audit of the 2025 fiscal year. Conducted by the Superior Entity of Audit and Fiscalization (ESAF) of the Morelos State Congress, the audit aims to review financial operations and ensure the transparent management of public resources.
