Municipalities in Mexico implement new public lighting and safety corridors
Local governments in Villa de Álvarez and Hermosillo have completed new public lighting projects to improve community safety and connectivity.
In Villa de Álvarez, Mayor Tey Gutiérrez Andrade delivered the rehabilitation of the public lighting network in the La Joya and Las Huertas neighborhoods of El Chivato. The project included the installation of 25 LED luminaries and a reflector for a sports court. The initiative aims to replace inefficient sodium vapor lamps with energy-efficient LED technology, specifically targeting marginalized areas to improve the perception of security for residents.
In Hermosillo, Mayor Antonio Astiazarán inaugurated the 170th ‘Camina Segura’ (Walk Safe) corridor in the Bugambilias neighborhood. This specific corridor serves students and faculty at the CBTIS 11 high school. The installation includes 20 luminaries, surveillance cameras, a panic button totem, and free Wi-Fi connectivity. The project is part of a broader municipal effort to protect pedestrians, particularly women and students, through enhanced infrastructure.
