Municipalities in Sweden and Finland announce new budgets and infrastructure plans
Municipal councils in Sweden and Finland have announced several administrative and budgetary decisions. In Jämtland Härjedal, the municipal board has proposed a municipal tax rate of 22.12 SEK per tax crown for 2027. Key initiatives include the establishment of a 'fritidsbank' to promote public health through active leisure, the planning of a new main street in Västra Ösa to connect residential areas with a new railway bridge, and the implementation of an e-archive to improve digital service accessibility.
In Kirkkonummi, the municipal council approved a strategic program to promote walking and cycling, aiming for these modes to account for 32 percent and 10 percent of all trips, respectively, by 2040. The council also approved supplementary budget allocations for 2026 totaling approximately 3.5 million euros. This includes 2 million euros for water supply investments via Kyrkslätts Vatten, 1.18 million euros for common services, and additional funding to cover higher-than-expected unemployment benefit costs. Furthermore, the municipality is preparing to receive up to 20 refugees in 2027.
