Municipalities in Venezuela and Chile advance local security regulations
In Venezuela, the Zea Municipal Council is conducting inter-institutional working sessions to reform the citizen coexistence ordinance and establish sanctions for minor infractions. The initiative involves various agencies, including rural and state police, civil protection, and child protection services. Franklin Pinto, president of the Municipal Council, stated the goal is to create a robust legal instrument based on multi-organizational input. A key focus includes addressing motorcycle-related issues through educational pilot programs in schools and social media campaigns.
In Chile, municipalities in the Biobío region and across the country are calling for greater speed and clarity regarding the regulations for the Municipal Security Law (No. 21.802). Discussions are ongoing between municipal associations and the Undersecretariat of Crime Prevention to finalize the regulatory framework. Maximiliano Ríos, president of the Security Commission of the Chilean Association of Municipalities, noted that technical information is being disseminated through executive minutes, formal drafts, and technical workshops. Local leaders, including the mayor of San Pedro de la Paz, have expressed the need for rapid implementation to effectively execute the existing law.
