Municipalities initiate infrastructure and flood protection projects

In Bietigheim-Bissingen, Germany, the city council has approved the start of planning for flood protection measures along the Saubach river. The Lindschulte Ingenieurgesellschaft from Baden-Baden has been commissioned for planning, with costs estimated at approximately 5.12 million euros, including land acquisition. The project aims to reduce annual flood damage by 92 percent, from nearly 600,000 euros to 47,000 euros. Bietigheim-Bissingen and Tamm are expected to split certain costs, while the city will bear the full cost of the Neuwengert and Saubach inlet measures. Construction is slated to begin in 2027.

In Urnäsch, Switzerland, planning has officially commenced for the total renovation of the Mettlen schoolhouse and fire station, following a four-month delay caused by a legal complaint regarding cost allocation. The project is estimated to cost 6.47 million Swiss francs. To accommodate the construction, temporary facilities for the kindergarten, school, and fire department will be established, with occupancy expected following the spring holidays in 2027. The municipal council has also approved the project manual to regulate organization and responsibilities.
