Municipalities launch new community running and walking initiatives

Local governments in Caraguatatuba, Brazil, and a municipality in Portugal are launching new physical activity programs to promote health and community integration.

In Caraguatatuba, the ‘Treino de Quinta’ project will debut with a free 5-kilometer course along the beachfront. The initiative, organized by the Secretariat of Sports and Recreation, offers both running and walking options to accommodate various fitness levels. The event includes organized sound, signage, and local food vendors to encourage healthy lifestyle habits among residents and visitors.

In Portugal, a new Running and Walking Club has been established to promote well-being in the workplace. The program features walking routes open to municipal employees and their families, as well as a dedicated running track for staff to form a competitive municipal team. The initiative was developed following employee feedback to improve work-life balance and strengthen social ties between colleagues.
