Municipalities in Argentina, Spain, and Mexico launch waste management initiatives
Various municipalities across Argentina, Spain, and Mexico are implementing diverse waste management and environmental education initiatives.
In Argentina, Río Grande is set to inaugurate its first classified waste station in November, a private-public partnership led by Plásticos de la Isla Grande S. A. (PIGSA). Other regional efforts include mobile 'Punto Verde' recycling units in Mar del Plata and the installation of permanent recycling bins in Formosa. In Tres Arroyos, local schools are participating in guided tours of waste separation plants to promote environmental awareness.
In Spain, Albacete is investing approximately 2.2 million euros to replace 700 recycling containers to improve urban cleanliness and service efficiency.
In Mexico, several local governments are addressing sanitation. Veracruz has launched an itinerant 'Punto Verde' program to collect electronics and oils, while Ecatepec is conducting 'Rastrillo Social' operations to clear public thoroughfares of debris. In Guadalupe, the state's Ministry of Environment has removed 5,000 tons of waste from the Las Sabinitas site in the Santa Catarina River, with a goal of reaching 9,000 tons to remediate decades of illegal dumping. Additionally, in Baja California, legislative proposals have been introduced to mandate weekly free collection of bulky waste to prevent illegal dumping in public spaces.
