Turkish municipalities launch social and educational initiatives
Various Turkish municipalities are implementing social and educational initiatives to support local communities. In Malatya, Mayor Sami Er announced plans to establish a dedicated marketplace for women's cooperatives and entrepreneurs to sell handmade products, following the opening of a new exhibition for local crafts.
Educational support is a major focus across several regions. Şehitkamil Municipality has allocated 200 million TL to provide 20,000 TL in total annual financial aid to university students. In Adıyaman, the AKEM center provides free YKS exam preparation for students, while Kartepe Municipality is launching new courses at Genç Akademi covering technology, arts, and languages. In Konya, KOMEK and ASEM are opening registration for vocational and artistic training, including digital and remote learning options.
Other municipal efforts include infrastructure and specialized training. Giresun is conducting large-scale urban maintenance and infrastructure projects. In Mersin, Erdemli Municipality is manufacturing its own container classrooms to support schools, and Anamur is utilizing a ‘Voluntary Work Model’ where inmates contribute to community services like environmental cleanup and school maintenance. Additionally, Manisa is launching a specialized gas welding course to help young women enter the workforce with internationally recognized certifications.
