Municipalities manage sanitation and waste collection services

Municipalities in Spain are managing significant changes to public sanitation services. In Torremolinos, the City Council has launched a tender for street cleaning, waste collection, and beach maintenance. The contract is divided into two lots: the first covers general cleaning and waste collection, while the second focuses on the removal of furniture and bulky items. The project aims to modernize machinery and equipment without increasing the tax burden on residents. The base budget for the tender is approximately 168.7 million euros, with a projected duration of ten years for the first lot and five years for the second.

In Almonte, workers have suspended an indefinite strike regarding waste collection and beach maintenance services. Following an agreement between the workers' committee and the concession company, unions UGT and SAT announced that most employee demands—including labor rights, vacation scheduling, and work rosters—have been addressed or scheduled for resolution. The strike, which was set to begin on August 14, had prompted the Junta de Andalucía to establish minimum services to ensure public functionality during the highly seasonal period.
