Municipalities provide disaster relief to families in Honduras and Chile
Local governments in Honduras and Chile are providing financial and material aid to families displaced or damaged by recent natural disasters.
In Tegucigalpa, Honduras, the Alcaldía Municipal del Distrito Central (AMDC) is offering rental assistance to 30 families in the Villa Unión neighborhood. These residents lost all or part of their homes due to heavy rains. Families who lost their homes entirely will receive six months of rent coverage, while those with partial damage will receive three months to ensure they remain in safe locations during the rainy season. Authorities are also evaluating the construction of a masonry wall to manage surface water and mitigate future risks.
In Penco, Chile, the Housing and Urbanization Service (SERVIU) and the Municipality of Penco have begun distributing material bank cards to families affected by heavy swells in the Cerro Verde Bajose sector. Six families were identified as having significant damage following a frontal system on July 16. In the first phase, three families received cards worth 50 UF (over 2 million pesos) to purchase construction materials for home repairs. The remaining three families are currently processing property titles to access similar assistance.
